I really, really love smoothie bowls. I simply can’t get enough of them. The sweet, liquid fruit, combined with crunchy toppings is absolutely all I could ever ask for in the morning. I actually go to bed dreaming about them. I particularly love this recipe as berries have a low GI, which means they do not spike your blood sugar levels in the same way as other, higher-sugar, fruits can.

Blueberries (and spinach) are also championed superfoods, filling us up with antioxidants that have anti-aging & cancer properties. They also provide excellent sources of many vitamins & minerals, and have been proven to improve the condition of our skin & hair, and boost brain function. Fairly impressive really! The bananas and dates provide natural sweetness and heaps of dietary fibre, which makes us feel nice & full. The addition of maca is optional but will simply give your body an energy boost and add an earthy flavour to the smoothie, which I personally love. I like to go a little crazy with toppings on my smoothie bowls… more fresh fruit, cacao nibs, sunflower & pumpkin seeds, goji berries, nut butters, etc., although I must say that I think the flavour combination of this recipe with my Banana & Honey Nut Granola is particularly exceptional! You can also enjoy this recipe as a simple smoothie (Strawberry & Blueberry Smoothie) if you fancy something a little simpler or you need to make a move!
